LA GIOIA

LONDONUNION ‘25

La Gioia

(Lyrics by Brady & Bridget Rymer)

The lizard bit my finger

As I was reaching for a juicy plum

The smell of jasmine lingers

Caravaggio paints the pain of love

We’ve got the OG’s

And the Secondis

And now the Dolcis

Everybody sing it with me

La Gioia!

Well, my right hand’s on my left arm

Bronzino’s got me upside down

I got the honeycomb in my fingers

Cupid’s never gonna steal my crown

Gabriella

Her handsome fella (Mario)

E Molto Bella

Lookin’ like movie stars

La Gioia!

We marveled at the master drawings

Done in silverpoint and charcoal black

And when that Rembrandt gave her shivers

Stacy’s dress went front to back!

We welcomed Sally

And here comes Ali

And now there’s Nellie

Look at us multiplyin’!

La Gioia!

“There’s a warm worm in my yogurt!”

That was Henry’s expert tip

You lose the R’s and the O’s an Uh

Now you’re speaking like a proper Brit!

We saw the codpiece

Had an Indian feast

We savored Mincemeat!

Yeah, we’re rompin’ in the wild West End

La Gioia!

She was exiled to an island

With the god of love and wine

Her crown thrown to the heavens

Made all the stars that shine

We did Firenze!

And bella Roma

And now Londra!

Where we gonna pop up next?

La Gioia!

Well, Mama drank too much vino

Roses cast before the swine

Oh, the effects of intemperance

But Daddy don’t seem to mind

We got the White Russians

By the dozens

We’re all cousins

Says Jacques and 23 and Me!

La Gioia!

He come a’riding on a big white charger

In a glorious gold red hat

Yeah, the horse could be a little bit larger

But Uccello wasn’t going for that!

We thank the MDs

And a little alchemy

We survived the taxis

No, nothing’s gonna slow us down

La Gioia!

A rainy night in lit-up London

Cruisin’ down the river Thames

Sharing wine and gin and tonics

With our classmated form Firenze

During “La Bamba”

We did the Samba

It could have been the Rhumba (who cares!)

Everybody’s on the ol’ dance floor!

La Gioia!

When Father Time draws back the curtain

And all this folly is through

One thing we’re gonna know for certain

Is we were lucky just to be with you

With a golden crown upon her head

Tiaras for her maids

And for the loyal ones who love her

Her spell on them remains

We’ve got the OG’s

And the Secondis

And now the Dolcis

Everybody sing it with me!

La Gioia!

La Gioia!

La Gioia!
